How a Small-Ship Cruise Led Us to Croatia’s Top Travel Influencers

Last July, what started as our first small-ship cruise through Croatia turned into something we never expected.

When Dennis and I boarded our Adriatic voyage, we were simply excited to experience Croatia in a more intimate and authentic way — island hopping, exploring coastal towns, and discovering the hidden gems that larger cruise ships simply can’t reach.

What we didn’t realize was that we had unknowingly stepped onto a ship filled with people who shared the same passion we do: showcasing the beauty, culture, and spirit of Croatia.

It was one of those truly serendipitous travel moments.

Throughout the voyage, we had the opportunity to meet several well-known Croatian journalists, content creators, photographers, and travel influencers who were also documenting the experience.

One of the highlights was meeting Alma Premerl Zoko and her husband, who together created Modni Almanah — a style and travel magazine launched during the Covid period to help people remain connected to fashion, culture, beauty, and travel even when the world temporarily stopped moving.

Their passion for storytelling and travel was inspiring. Throughout Europe, they are known for blending fashion, lifestyle, and destination experiences in a way that feels elegant, personal, and authentic.

We also had the honor of meeting Edi Škovrlj, one of Croatia’s most recognizable radio and television commentators, who was onboard documenting the small-ship cruise experience.

During the voyage, Edi interviewed me for a segment that was later broadcast on national Croatian television through HRT, Croatia’s national public broadcasting network.

And then came my unexpected “15 seconds of fame.”

When he asked what I thought, my answer was simple:

“This is the best way to see the most of Croatia in a short amount of time.”

What immediately went through my mind were all of our previous trips to Croatia — renting cars, constantly packing and unpacking, rushing from destination to destination, and never fully settling into the true “Pomalo” way of life.

For many American travelers, we often only have a week or so for international vacations. The reality is that Croatia has so much to offer — historic cities, island villages, coastal culture, hidden coves, incredible food, and breathtaking Adriatic scenery — that one week barely scratches the surface.

What makes boutique small-ship cruising so special is that it allows travelers to experience multiple destinations in a single trip without constantly packing, unpacking, driving, or coordinating ferries and hotels.

In one week, you can wake up in a different harbor almost every morning, explore historic coastal towns, discover hidden Adriatic gems, and experience parts of Croatia that many visitors never get to see.

Especially for travelers visiting Croatia as a once-in-a-lifetime or bucket-list destination, small-ship cruising offers an incredible way to experience the diversity and beauty of the country in a meaningful and efficient way.

There is something incredibly special about small-ship cruising in Croatia. Unlike larger cruise experiences, these boutique Adriatic voyages allow travelers to wake up in a different harbor almost every morning, walk directly into historic coastal towns, connect with local culture, and experience places that feel personal instead of commercialized.

That experience ultimately became one of the inspirations behind expanding Croatian Adventurers into a way of introducing American Travelers to a more authentic Croatian Vacation Experience.

We realized that there are so many travelers — especially Americans with Croatian roots or those simply looking for a more authentic European experience — who are searching for a deeper connection to Croatia beyond the typical tourist path.

And sometimes, the best travel moments happen when you least expect them.

This short video clip captures one of those unforgettable moments from our journey.
